Fran Crippen Dies at International Race

This is a heartbreaking story! Fran Crippen died during an International Race at United Arab Emirates on Saturday. The 26 year old medal winning open water swimmer complained to his coach during the race stating he did not feel well. Fran was from a family of prominent swimmers in suburban Philadelphia. Fran was competing in the FINA Open Water 10-kilometer World Cup in Fujairah, south of Dubai, but he was unable to finish and was discovered in the water two hours later, according to Swimming World. Swimming World reports the water temperature was in the mid- to high-80s, and several swimmers were treated for heat exhaustion after the race.
